Kevin Goldilla - Puerto Rico

Kevin Goldilla Figueroa was born June 29th, 1979 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Since he was a young boy he was considered an artist. At a very early age he studied acting under Professor Irene Rivera, who considered him “her theatrical son”. According to Kevin, this experience was the turning point that ignited his interest in the arts.

Kevin has always been characterized as being thoughtful and affectionate and is known for his great sense of humor. After graduating high school, he was thinking of going into Marine Biology, but as faith would have it, he was invited to sing as a guest star with the meringue orchestra known as “La Vega Band” by the hand of Carmen Vega. Then and there he realized his life was music and after three years with the orchestra he went on to be the lead singer for another orchestra known as “Fuego Latino” (Latin Fire), making him a household name.

After a few years, a producer named Luis Santiago approached him to go solo with a new dance-type project, combining the Bachata style along with meringue. There Kevin-Kevin was born. With his catch phrase “Azotando” (smacking/lash whipping) he conquered the hearts and minds of many. Today he possesses a rich unedited repertoire with songs that go from romantic and heart break songs all the way up to fun tunes that made everybody dance including those who never danced before.

Today Kevin represents Puerto Rico in the “Battle of the Americas”.

Interview - Know our finalists

1. Do you like to sing in the shower? And if so, what songs?

I really love it, who doesn´t? I just let go in the shower. I also get into character and pretend i´m in the middle of a concert. I have a lot of friends that join me in my shower-concerts, Victor Manuelle, Andrea Bochelli, David Bisbal, Cheyenne, Ricky and even Rawy.

2. If you could trade places with somebody, who would you do it with?

Maybe with my mother, she is a fighter and has always taught us well. I think that by trading places I could help her deal with the suffering that all mothers have for their children. Just like when God suffered for us, why shouldn’t I suffer a little for her?

3. When you were a kid, what did you used to do to make your mother angry? Wow, do I really have to answer that?

Well to be honest I was a handfull. I could not stand still for one moment. And maybe I´m still a kid, I still can’t stand still.

4. What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

I once ripped my pants at work when acting like a monkey. That’s funny. I can laugh about it now. I always end up laughing about my crazy stuff.

Losing my family

No, even though I wanted one, but nobody even called me baby.

8. If you could ask for one wish, what would it be?

To help the helpless, that is right now the biggest satisfaction I can think of.

9. What place would you like to visit?

I´ve always felt intrigued by Argentina

10. If you where to be stranded on a deserted island, what book, movie, person and/or food would you take with you?

I would probably take my iPod. So I hope I don’t stay long because my battery wouldn’t last.
