Rishardson CuellarRichard Cuellar - Colombia
Richard Cuellar Acevedo was born May 12th, 1984 in Neiva (Huila-Colombia). He is the fifth out of seven brothers. From a very early age he showed that he had a god-given gift for musical interpretation as a singing and dancing act, taking part in school plays and the choir.
In 2001 he founded his first singing and dancing band. They were called “Conexion Pop” (Pop connection). He debuted as a chorographer in modern rhythms, climbing the ladder one step at a time, one school department at a time, finishing in first place of several modern dance contests.
From there the idea of mixing styles of dance and vocals was born. He starred in numerous shows and performed at beauty pageants, club openings, parties, reunions, and modeling events.
In 2003, he started to concentrate on his vocals and finished in first place in a contest held by the Cooperative University of Colombia. In 2005, proved himself as a singer-songwriter by finishing 3rd in a contest held by one of the local radio stations known as “Cristalina Estereo” (Crystal Stereo) with his song “Regresa a mi” (Comeback to me). In 2006, he had the opportunity to represent Colombia at the Departmental Beauty Reign contest. This contest allowed him to show off his vocal and songwriting skills with “Brilla en tu Corazon” (Shines in your heart). This opened the door for Richard to lead the Chinese-Colombian band known as “Mandarina China Band” (Tangerine/Mandarin China Band). This band is made up of mostly Latin (Colombian) musicians, but the singers are Asian. They toured all over Colombia.
Richard is becoming one of the most recognized singers in his city and will be representing Colombia in the Battle of the Americas contest.
