Larry Morales - Perú
On April 6th, 1983, Larry Morales was born in Ayacucho, Peru. Before he turned one, his parents moved him to the capital city of Lima where he spent most of his childhood and teenage life.
From a very early age he showed interest in music. Although he did not study it, he had a natural-born talent for it. When he was 7 years old, he used to climb on to the roof of his house and just “hum” songs until dusk. When he turned 11, his father started taking him to local karaoke bars, even though children were not allowed inside. Soon thereafter, every karaoke bar near his house knew who he was.
When he was 14 years old, he moved Los Angeles, CA and got a job helping his uncles in the family-owned record store. He saved his money and with some help from his parents he bought his own karaoke machine and a wireless microphone. There wasn’t a single day that he didn’t sing.
That same year, 1988, he went back to Peru for a short trip, and then decided to move to Miami, FL. After about a year in Miami he heard about a TV show called “Orgullo Hispano” (Hispanic Pride) where they interviewed celebrities such as producers, singers and composers. Larry was fortunate enough to meet a producer that was a guest on that show, and when this producer heard him sing, he liked his voice so much that he offered him a record deal on the spot. For personal reasons, he didn´t accept it.
In 2007, Larry started medical school. In addition to his love for music, he had a huge interest in studying psychological illnesses. Today, he continues with his studies along with his dreams of one day becoming a big artist. He says: “My life has always been a constant fight which is why I have always considered myself a warrior. I believe the toughest battles are waged within one´s self”.

Interview - Know our finalists
1. Do you like to sing in the shower? And if so, what songs do you sing?
Of course I love it. I just love singing in the shower and not just the shower, but the kitchen, the back yard, the bus stop, and any other place at any time. But the shower is a very special place because it has that private feeling for singing, that lets one let go and just sing your heart out privately. When I’m in the shower I usually hum my own songs and I tap the bathroom walls searching for a beat. I have written many songs that way.
2. If you could trade places with somebody, who would you do it with?
I have many people who I admire, many mentors from whom I have learned many things without having even met them. I know that each human being is unique and I´m very grateful because I have always been very surrounded by love. I don’t think I would ever trade places with anybody. I would rather keep getting to know myself and keep exploring my boundaries and my singularity, that way I can find the way to bring out the best I have to give. I think that being unique is a blessing in itself.
3. When you were a kid, what did you used to do to make your mother angry?
Well, I guess the correct way of asking that question would be what didn’t I do? I think that “Dennis the Menace” fell short of my shenanigans. I was incorrigible, not that I was a brat, I just had too much energy. They couldn´t keep up
4. What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
After playing soccer for a whole afternoon, I was exhausted and I fell asleep on a friend´s couch where they thought it would be funny to shave my eyebrows. When I woke up and noticed I immediately asked for the hair clippers and shaved off the rest of my hair to go along with my eyebrows. For the next month or so I went to work looking like a Martian wearing sunshades even at night. It wasn’t as embarrassing as it was funny.
5. What are you most afraid of?
Throughout my life, like any other human being, I have felt afraid of many things. However, I have had this urge to learn things since I was born, so that has helped me to confront and understand my fears. My biggest fear is that I won’t get to complete my life´s mission.
6. What was one of the happiest times in your life?
When my entire family got together in Miami after being apart for four years.
7. Did you have a nickname when you were a kid? And what was it?
Not that I knew about, but I’m sure I had some back in school because I was a little overweight. I changed schools a lot, so none of them really stuck with me, just my real name, Larry.
8. If you could ask for one wish, what would it be?
Life and health for my parents until they reach old age
9. What place would you like to visit?
I would very much like to visit Kokomo, that place mentioned by the Beach Boys, the one that goes “Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I wanna take ya…”
10. If you where to be stranded on a deserted island, what book, movie, person and/or food would you take with you?
I would take the bible. Every time you read something in it you always learn something new, regardless of how many times you have read it.
