Alexander Sosa – Dominican Republic

Alexander was born August 31st, 1982 in Cotui, the Sanchez Ramirez Province of the Dominican Republic, also known as the birth place of both human and natural riches. From a very early age he had a passion for music. As a child he took piano lessons at the Beauty Arts Conservatory in San Francisco de Macoris, participated in several talent contests in school, and took part in a series of different activities in his home town. From an early age he started writing songs and small verses highlighting his abilities as a composer. Later on he wrote his first musical piece known as “Eres” (You are), a song inspired by feminine beauty. In early 2001 his passion for music drove him to travel to Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominic Republic. He left his home town, his family, and his life in search of his dream of becoming a star.

Once in Santo Domingo, Alexander started his musical journey performing in the city´s finest hotels and hottest night clubs. Towards the end of 2006 he entered the most prominent talent contest in his country, “Buscando el Exito” (In search of success), and immediately stood out among all others because of his strength and scenic dominance. Each one of his performances is mounted with the utmost dedication which earned him first place among the 600 contestants.

Alexander is a very passionate artist and delivers his all every time he steps on stage. After winning Buscando el Exito, his town honored him with a parade through the main park and declared him the “Honorary Son of the Province”. Every major newspaper in the country reported on Alexander after he won the show and he made appearances on all of the major TV and radio stations in his country.

Alexander Sosa is the product of persistence, strength and courage. He capitalized on this new found success and formed a band. If you go to one of his shows, you can expect a hig-energy performance with top notch vocals. His faithful followers call him “Mamasota” or “Big Mama”. In addition to his band, Alexander has been working on a series of unedited songs from different rhythms with fusions of meringue, afro-Antillean rhythms, ballads, rock and bachata.

Today Alexander Sosa, is representing the Dominical Republic in the Batalla de las Americas.

1. Do you like to sing in the shower? And if so, what songs?

Yes, heartache songs.

2. If you could trade places with somebody, who would you do it with?

Barack Obama. I would like to know what being the most important figure in the country feels like, especially in this country where we still have so many racial taboos.

3. When you were a kid, what did you used to do to make your mother angry?

I got into fights at school on a daily basis.

4. What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

When I was a kid, I knew this girl at school that I used to like a lot; It took me so long to muster up the strength to say anything that by the time I did, she answered by cursing at me, in front of everybody, needless to say this really broke my heart and really embarrassed me a whole lot, to this day I don’t forget that moment.
