Miguel SequeiraMiguel Sequeira - Nicaragua
Miguel Eduardo Sequeira Mendoza was born in Managua, Nicaragua on October 13th, 1986 to his father, José Miguel Sequeira Campos, and his mother, Nubia Mendoza Reyes. He’s been singing since he was a young boy and was always involved in school talent shows without his mother knowing. He felt at ease on stage and his confidence radiated in all his performances.
He started mimicking the singer Charlie Zaa and one day his mother took him to a karaoke competition in the city when he was just 12. That day Miguel not only participated but he won. Since then he competed in all local karaoke events and won every single one.
When he was 15 years old, he created a dance group with some friends and imitated the group, ‘NSYNC. He would record all of their performances and practice with his friends after school. It wasn’t until he attended College, while studying Industrial Engineering that he began to seriously pursue his singing career. It was there that he formed a band with some friends and began performing everywhere they could, including school functions.
One day while performing at the University’s auditorium, a teacher approached him and because of his voice, offered him a scholarship. With this, Miguel continued to perform in cultural events and continued to receive a lot of support from family and friends.
Even though he continued his Engineering studies, Miguel’s passion for singing and music grew and he wanted even more. When his father asked him what he wanted, Miguel replied, “I want to be famous.” His father would laugh and say, “You don’t always get what you want”, but Miguel never gave up hope.
In his own words…
People would hear me sing and say, “Why don’t you dedicate yourself to this? You’re very good.” And I would say, “This is my last year of pursuing this. If nothing happens, then I’ll give up my dream forever.” And it seems that God heard me because he placed Batalla de las Americas in my path. This year, 2009, I started my internship at a well-known company and one day as I was on my way to work I heard the radio station advertising a new reality show. I didn’t think I could make it. I then asked my father for advice and he said to think about it and weigh my options. My life’s dream has always been to sing. Today I am very happy that I made that decision because Batalla de las Americas has brought me the greatest time of my life.
