Sammy Nieves – Puerto Rico

Sammy Nieves was born on February 16th 1979, in Ceiba, Puerto Rico. He´s felt passion for singing for as long as he can remember. He used to be part of his church´s childrens choir and later became the lead singer for the choir. Every year he attended every spiritual retreat for his church and sang in every presentation.

His parents did not allow him to listen to popular music such as meringue and salsa, but Sammy would hide and listen to it anyways. He was completely fascinated by it. One of his biggest childhood dreams was to one day sing for a popular band such as “Menudo” or “Los Chicos”.

Sammy became a member of Puerto Rico´s national choir and every new school he enrolled in was an opportunity to immediately join the choir. He´s taken part in many talent contests in his home town, and has always taken first or second place. He participated in the auditions for “Objetivo Fama” (Objective Fame) and ended up being a semifinalist, but his biggest victory to date has been when he decided to participate in the “Batalla de las Americas” audition and won.

Today Sammy Nieves, will be representing Puerto Rico in the “Batalla de las Americas” contest.

1. Do you like to sing in the shower? And if so, what songs do you sing?

Yes, songs by Cristian Castro, David Bisbal, Luis Fonsi, amongs others.

2. If you could trade places with somebody, who would you do it with?

I would trade places with Ricky Martin because aside from his success as a singer (which is my goal) he created his own foundation to help children that have been mistreated, abused and exploited sexually.

3. When you were a kid, what did you used to do to make your mother angry?

When I got low grades in school

4. What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

Nothing to this day

5. What are you most afraid of?

I’m afraid of heights, the ocean, being alone, spiders and scorpions.

6. What was one of the happiest times in your life?

The day I was picked to represent Puerto Rico in the reality show Batalla de las Americas

7. Did you have a nickname when you were a kid? And what was it?

Samito

8. If you could ask for one wish, what would it be?

To fulfill my life long dream of becoming a successful singer, get to win important awards like a Grammy, “Lo Nuestro” award, the Billboard award and a “Juventud” award.

9. What place would you like to visit?

The entire world, Spain, Paris and Italy

10. If you where to be stranded on a deserted island, what book, movie, person and/or food would you take with you?

The book “El Secreto” (The secret) because it teaches that in life one has to put some effort into it if you want to succeed. The Harry Potter movies and the Celine Dion concert. I would take my closest friends. I would take plenty of Chinese food, a pile of Snickers Bars, Chocolate, water and plenty of Sprite Zero.
